Here's 5 reasons why Freiburg will see off Juventus See how all seven Bundesliga clubs still in Europe are faring Click here for all of Freiburg's Bundesliga goals this season Latest After a wobbly start to 2023 encompassing heavy defeats against Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund, Freiburg have settled of late and are now on a five-game unbeaten run in all competitions, winning three and drawing their last two.
Christian Streich's side were not at their best in the latest of those, a 0-0 draw at Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday, so will need an improved performance on Thursday if they are to get a positive result in Turin. Grifo, with 12 Bundesliga goals and four assists so far this season, is the team's attacking focal point, while his two strikes in Europe this term are only bettered by Michael Gregoritsch with three. The Austrian forward was absent at the weekend with illness, but could return to the starting line-up here given the physical presence he offers. Juventus were on an impressive seven-game unbeaten sequence of their own prior to the weekend, only to lose 1-0 at Roma on Sunday. Having been handed a 15-point deduction for administrative reasons earlier in the season, they are now seven points adrift of the Serie A top six - giving this fixture even greater significance in terms of their European ambitions.
Di Maria hit a hat-trick in the team's Europa League play-off triumph over Nantes last month, while Dusan Vlahovic is the team's eight-goal leading scorer in the league, which should be enough for him to start ahead of Federico Chiesa. Former Eintracht Frankfurt winger Filip Kostic is set to start on the left, but Paul Pogba, now fit again following injury, is likely to begin on the bench.
